What you need to set up



There are some basic necessities needed before a system can be installed and to ensure that you produce the volume of fresh sprouting fodder that you need every day.


Mini Systems

For optimum growth the system needs to be housed in an insulated building so that the internal climate can be easily controlled. We recommend a consistent temperature of 19ºC (+/- 1ºC) and a low humidity below 70%.


Please note that we do not provide any heating, cooling or dehumidifying equipment with the system as we leave this for you to source locally, but we are happy to make some recommendations.


In a well-insulated room the heat/cooling requirements are easily achievable.


• Room Size

The minimum room dimensions for the Mini system range are:

  • HF50 – 4m long x 3.2m wide x 2.15m high
  • HF70 – 5m long x 3.2m wide x 2.15m high
  • HF100 – 5m long x 3.2m wide x 2.8m high
  • HF120 – 5m long x 3.2m wide x 3.2m high


• Water supply

A clean readily available water supply.


• Air change

A small extractor fan and vent to bring fresh air into the room on a timer.


• Power supply

For the Mini systems you only require one 13A socket with the recommended protection (RCD). This does not take into account the power needed for any heating, cooling and dehumidification equipment that may be required.


• H2O Farm Nutrient

We only recommend our specifically developed nutrient to ensure the quality and volume of sprouting fodder from our systems is achieved.

Maxi Systems

• An insulated building

HF1000 will require a building that is a minimum of 13m long x 11m wide x 3.2m high.
HF2000 will require a building that is a minimum of 13m long x 11m wide x 3.2m high.

A well insulated building, roof and walls, reduces the costs of heating and cooling.


• Water supply

A clean readily available water supply.


• Power supply

The actual hydroponic system requires only a single-phase 32A feed. The climate control will require power supply as determined by your supplier.

We do supply a climate control panel and software that will work with most air conditioning units. Please contact us for further details.


• High quality grain

We only use certificated, cleaned, guaranteed 97% germinating malt or seed grade hydroponic sprouting barley. This is a key factor in achieving the conversion rates from 1-8kg that are typically reported from our installations.


H2O Farm Nutrient

We only recommend our specifically developed nutrient to ensure the quality and volume of sprouting fodder from our systems is achieved. With Maxi Systems we will ask for a small sample of your water supply so we can tailor the nutrient to suit your water source.
